Saint Laurent: Anthony Vaccarello’s Golden Farewell

After ten years as Saint Laurent’s creative director, Anthony Vaccarello is leaving the house. Announced on October 9, his departure gives new meaning to the Spring/Summer 2027 show presented on September 29: a final flourish of Parisian glamour and emotion.

Against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, beneath monumental chandeliers, the designer transformed the runway into a nocturnal stage. Gold silhouettes caught the light against the black catwalk, creating a striking spectacle. Paris became the setting for a collection celebrating the pleasure of dressing up and being seen.

Gold ran through the wardrobe, from lamé and brocade to organza and chiffon. Each fabric revealed a different shimmer, while safari jackets, trench coats and wrap skirts met Vaccarello’s powerful shoulders and distinctive volumes. Statement jewellery and sculptural shoes extended this exploration of radiance.

Then black returned. Velvet, jewelled details and sculptural gowns brought a romantic softness to the closing looks. After the brilliance of gold, this sequence seemed to hold time still.

The finale, accompanied by a sung tribute from Charlotte Gainsbourg, ended with a standing ovation. Days later, confirmation of Vaccarello’s departure gave that emotion the poignancy of a farewell.
